The North Forge Indigenous Entrepreneur Scholarship continues to support the next generation of creators by offering Indigenous youth access to the tools, training, and mentorship needed to bring their product ideas to life. This year, we are proud to announce the recipients of the scholarship: Kristopher Blacklaw and Colan Ross.
Immersed in Innovation at the Fabrication Lab
As part of the scholarship, Kristopher and Colan each receive a one-year membership to the North Forge Fabrication Lab. This includes access to advanced prototyping equipment, entrepreneurial mentorship, and an inspiring community of creators and innovators. The goal is to empower these young entrepreneurs to build confidence and capability by turning their ideas into real-world prototypes.
Surrounded by creative thinkers and experienced business leaders, both recipients will be encouraged to experiment, explore, and refine their innovations in a supportive environment.
Meet Kristopher Blacklaw
A recent graduate of Gordon Bell High School, Kristopher brings practical experience as a stagehand with NASCO. With a strong interest in trades, he’s excited to deepen his skill set.
“I am hoping to learn how to build the things I will need in the future, so I can support my family as well as myself,” said Kristopher. “I hope to do this by learning a couple of trades through this scholarship.”
Meet Colan Ross
Colan Ross, also a recent graduate, is focused on building lifelong employability skills through mentorship.
“I am interested in receiving the scholarship for the mentorship from North Forge,” he said. “It would be a pleasure to get lifelong employability skills and training from them.”
Collaboration and Community
This scholarship program is made possible through our partnership with Community Futures Manitoba, which delivers the Indigenous Business Development Services (IBDS) project on behalf of Western Economic Diversification Canada.
